Tom Gillihan started Sterling Communications in 1997 with an aggressive launch schedule that had the first bytes pathed on the network in March of 1998. VP of Engineering, Bill Anderson joined the company in January 2000. At that time, they offered dial-up, web hosting, co-location, and frame-relay services. Broadband was added to the product line in June 2000, and the first DSL customer signed on in August 2000. From the very beginning, Filtered Internet access has been part of Sterling's product offering and has helped them achieve their mission: to offer safe and productive internet services for both businesses and families. During the course of 2003, Sterling added national dial-up service, filtering software for spam and virus, and LAN high-speed services in the Portland metropolitan area to round out their product offering. The company continued to grow rapidly, solely through the positive word-of-mouth being generated by their customers. Today the company has the infrastructure and bandwidth to support the biggest corporations, smaller businesses and residential customers with a reliable, safe and productive way to utilize the internet. |
