Tell us more about your company:
We opened on December 15, 2006 with 10 employees. Lewis & Clark Bank is a
full-service bank, with principal focus on small to mid-sized businesses, professional practices, non-profit organizations, and residential and commercial development companies. We also specialize in providing banking services to business owners and executives, and other professionals and individuals seeking high-level, personalized service.
Your main job responsibility:
Together with Larry Baker and Jeffrey Sumpter, lead and develop Lewis & Clark Bank into one of Portland’s premier independently owned and operated banks. As CFO, my emphasis is on strategic analysis, asset/liability management, and operations.
What you like most about your profession:
Two areas come to mind:
1) Modeling the financial and operational impact of proposed or hypothetical strategic initiatives.
2) Meeting and exchanging ideas with clients and other business people.
Newest trend to watch in your industry:
In some ways we were fortunate to open our doors last December, which has enabled us to begin day one with a very careful eye on credit quality and project feasibility. It will be difficult for me to watch many banks suffer collateral damage from both the housing slow-down and the subprime mortgage melt-down.
Involvement in the community:
My wife and I actively support Portland Baroque Orchestra, a world-class baroque orchestra located right here in Portland. I have also become actively involved in the School of Business Administration Mentor Program at Portland State University.
How you first heard about Sterling Communications:
When we first went about identifying potential providers, we really wanted to work with a local company. While there were multiple options for data service, we were very interested in finding out more about Sterling’s VoIP offering. We have been very pleased with our decision.
How your company uses Sterling’s technology and services:
We use multiple T1 lines and VoIP telephone equipment and service for our voice and Internet needs. We continue to be impressed by Sterling’s consistently reliable Internet and VoIP connectivity.
